The Vox Elder Doing Open Jam At Candy's Pub

The Vox Elder At Candy's Open Mic Night

We had another fun night at Candy's Pub for Wednesday's Open Mic with the house band, The Wait, giving great support for anyone wishing share their musical talents. That is such a fun place with cool folks just chillin' to the music and good vibes on an October night in southeast Wisconsin. Candy's has been my fav of all the places we've been.

We got there at a little past 7:00 and hung around some till things got going. The Vox and I spent some time talking to the rhythm player for The Wait. I didn't catch his name but enjoyed mostly listening to the guys talking music and guitar stuff. I love doing that – there's so many cool things I don't know about guitars and past artists so this is my education. I joined in a bit with my own music experience, but really, I prefer listening to the people that were a real part of the music revolution that happened through the 50s, 60s, and 70s. There's just no other time like it.

Vox joined in with someone doing Sax, he was really good, they did a mostly instrumental version of After Midnight. Next it was The Vox leading the band with his version of Gloria. I was able to get a little dancing in while doing my part with Facebook Live and snapping a few still shots for posterity. You can catch a repeat of the music, recorded live, on The Unheard Of Fan Page.

Just a reminder that we'll be at Candy's Pub again in a couple days for the full night Halloween Party with food, a costume contest with prizes, and great music. The party is from 8:00 to Midnight on October 26, 2024. Stop in and be sure to say hi.

Peace Love and Rock & Roll

The Unheard Of interview on WMSE October 12

Unheard Of Interview On WMSE Radio

(Interview starts at around 25 minutes)

On Saturday October 12th The Vox and I headed out to meet Ted (drummer for The Unheard Of) then the 3 of us drove to Krueger Hall on the Milwaukee School Of Engineering (MSOE) campus where the WMSE radio station is located. It's a cool location near the old downtown area of Milwaukee with some shops and of course bars and restaurants catering to college life and close to the Lake Michigan beaches, Art Museum, and Summerfest grounds. We managed to somehow get a free parking space right in front of Krueger Hall – talk about rock star status!

We went inside to the lobby/reception area with a large window looking into the DJ booth. Barry – the previous host was finishing his show and let me take some pics while he was still on the air. There were tons of vinyl records in racks and shelves with old pics and posters on the walls. I really liked it because I had been expecting a more modernized version with something like just a laptop computer, tiny USB microphone, and desk. This was like the old analog days with dual turntables, real headphones for the DJ and guests, and all the paraphernalia you'd expect from a real radio broadcast station.

Tim Noble walked in getting ready for his 'Why My Head Hurts' show. Tim and another guy showed us around and a major attraction was an ancient large turntable that was once used to record the shows. There were a lot of interesting things to look at but now it was showtime.

Tim took his spot sitting in his official DJ chair in front of a big microphone and started to get things rolling while Vox and Ted sat on the other side of the table with their own headphones and big old mics. It was about 20 minutes into the show when the actual interview began. They talked about the upcoming vinyl releases Spiros Pelekis in Athens Greece is putting together for the RumbleSkunk recording label and another LP being processed in Italy. They also talked about the Halloween Party coming up on October 26th at Candy's Pub in St. Anthony, WI which will be broadcast live on The Unheard Of Fan Page.

Tim played works by The Unheard Of, Sid Barrett, and The 13th Floor Elevators. Between songs they talked about the music and some very interesting facts about the artists that you'd probably never hear about anywhere else unless you happen to be a real old-school audiophile, musicophile or musical aficionado. I love this sort of stuff – it's the background score I grew up with and is actually still popular today altho having something of a different understanding with younger folks. That's what makes classics classic, every generation and social groups all over the world and through history find meaning in the messages as they travel through time and space. That's magic! Real magic! Music is real magic like messages from the ether to us.

So that about sums it up for today. Remember to come back to this, the official blog Jamie's Little Light of The Unheard Of for news as it happens right from the source.

Following are some links and pics you might enjoy, including, of course, a link to the archive to catch the entire show at your leisure.

Peace Love and Rock & Roll forever
